Snoghøj – one of Lillebælt's most atmospheric and varied diving sites

Snoghøj Gammel Færgehavn is one of the places in the Little Belt where nature, history and underwater life merge into a very special diving experience. The area is located on the Jutland side by the Old Little Belt Bridge and offers easy access, a short way to the water and an environment that is both inviting for new divers and exciting for the more experienced. At the end of Gl. Færgevej you park just a few meters from the water's edge, where the local boat guild has their clubhouse and bridge, which makes it easy to go on a dive without long walks in equipment.

Below the surface, a varied and attractive underwater landscape opens up. The topography of the bottom is known for its large rocks, slopes, sugar kelp and eelgrass belts full of life – including eelgrass beds, needlefish and schools of small fish. The combination of solid bottom and rocks often provides very good visibility, and the rapidly deepening water makes the area both exciting and challenging. Already at a depth of around 10 meters, the terrain begins to change significantly, and if you dive further, you typically reach 17–20 meters, where the vegetation is dense and colorful.

One of the most striking highlights at Snoghøj is the experience of the old bridge piers. The granite-clad sides still stand beautifully, despite many years in salt water, and function as a natural work of art below the sea surface. The area around the bridge piers also contains historical traces – including the remains of an old mine catcher from World War II, which rises above the bottom and adds an exotic dimension to the dive. Fishing gear often accumulates here, and you regularly find remains from both old construction periods and more recent times.

Snoghøj is also an ideal place for underwater photographers. The many rocks, kelp forests, caves and cliffs create both wide-angle and macro subjects, and on days with good visibility the experience can almost be reminiscent of diving in more exotic waters – only with significantly lower temperatures. The current can vary, so the use of a compass and careful planning is recommended, especially if you swim out towards the bridge piers.

All in all, Snoghøj Gammel Færgehavn is a dive site that combines accessibility, nature experiences and a historical atmosphere. Here there is depth, life, beautiful structures and lots of variety – regardless of the season. And as an added bonus: BLIVDYKKER dives here regularly, because the place is simply one of the most rewarding in the entire Little Belt.
